Restoration and Preservation

Projects we are considering, preparing for or that are in progress:

  • Replacing the decking on the Spanish American Guard House-ALMOST DONE!
  • Repairing and painting the fence behind the Spanish American Guard House
  • Repainting the curbs of the Fort grounds yellow-ONGOING PROJECT
  • Removing all the incorrect vegetation in the upper and lower moats of the Star Fort-WE WILL WIN THIS FIGHT!!
  • Restoring and reglazing windows thought the complex with an emphasis on the 1848 barracks-A DEDICATED TEAM IN WORKING ON THIS NOW
  • Replacing the back steps to the Commandant’s House.  This will make access possible through both sides of the building making a better flow for museum visitors.
  • Complete replacement of all remaining casemate covers.  This will keep visitors safer by prohibiting access to the dark casemates as well as protect the vital walls of our Fort by deflecting rain and snow.
