The Spanish-American War guardhouse was constructed in 1898. After a long service life as a guardhouse, post office and telephone office, the Detroit Historical Museum restored it to look like it did when built. Inside you really get a feel for how the guards and prisoners might have lived. HFWC members have helped support the building by replacing the decking on the porch and plan to repair the stockade that surrounds the exercise yard in the spring of 2009.
